St Luke’s Chapel Volunteers, Macclesfield District General Hospital.

Within Macclesfield hospital is a lovely little chapel (St Luke’s) where there are services every Sunday, led by different church groups. A team from Holy Trinity organise the morning service whenever there is a fifth Sunday in the month, but members of this team also help on other Sundays too. It all starts at about 10am, when members of the team visit the wards to invite patients to the chapel. For those that do want to come, they then need to be taken to the chapel. This can involve finding wheelchairs or just simply escorting walking patients.

The number of people attending can range from 3 to 23 and can include staff and relatives as well as the patients themselves. It is a wonderful opportunity for the local churches to help bring spiritual uplift and healing.
The service itself is usually a shortened Holy Communion, lasting about half an hour and is a time of prayer, praise and listening to God’s word. The patients are then taken back to their wards in time for lunch!

The HTH team meet together once or twice a year. In March all the chapel volunteers were invited by the hospital management committee to a service of dedication and a buffet meal. Nearly one hundred people came and it was great to feel part of such a big team.

If you would like to be involved we would always welcome new members. The only requirements are that you are of reasonably health, love the Lord and are friendly and if you can sing as well, that is an added bonus.

If you would like more information, please contact the Church Office who will put you in touch with the right people.
